The Africa Portfolios Collection in Nine Volumes: 1986 - 2012

The Field Mirror Photography of Elisabeth Sunday

In my home studio, 2023

There is nothing else like it: No one in the world has ever done what I set out to do in 1983 with my first visual experiences with field mirror photography. This goes way beyond the visual experimentation the avant guard artists in Paris playing with "smoke and mirrors" in the early life of the photographic arts.

I design my mirrors to work like a second lens to produce a very specific desired, preconceived visual effect, both with the subject and depth of field. My work in the field is fully sensorial and experiential. The environment, the people, the stories play on the visual plain to create photographs that blend together physical reality, myth, story, and the invisible forces that connect us.

The Africa Portfolios Collection in Nine Volumes: 1986 - 2012 will consist of 150, 16" x 20" split-toned archival pigment prints. The portfolios will come in a custom made cloth-bound clamshell box with an embossed title and interleaving. This body of work is in 9 volumes and two parts.
