SHOWING until July 6 at Throckmorton Fine Art, 145 East 57th Street, New York, is ‘Grace: Elisabeth Sunday’, a beautiful and compelling exhibition of 30 limited edition platinum prints by the world-acclaimed African-American photographer Elisabeth Sunday.
Sunday has spent years travelling and working in Africa photographing tribesmen and women from the Congo, Kenya, Mali, Zaire and Ethiopia.
The dignity and artistry of her portrayal of the subject combined with technical excellence is apparent in the study of an Ethiopian woman we show here, and equally impressive is a portrait of a Sahara tribesman from Mali completely draped in white robes.
Elisabeth Sunday’s work is in the permanent collections of museums from the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris to San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and this exhibition shows why.
